This long out-of-print LP (the third of four in a Solid State series) has very long versions of ''Satin Doll'' and ''Straight No Chaser'' performed by a variety of West Coast All-Stars: trumpeters Harry ''Sweets'' Edison and Bobby Bryant, trombonists Carl Fontana and Frank Rosolino, Pete Christlieb and Harold Land on tenors, vibraphonist Victor Feldman. Tommy Flanagan or Jimmy Rowles on piano, Chuck Berghofer or Ray Brown on bass and drummer Ed Thigpen. The best solo is the very first one as Sweets Edison pulls out all of his tricks on ''Satin Doll''....
