Although much of Nancy Wilson's output has had more to do with pop and pop/R&B than jazz, the singer continues to have an impact on hardcore jazz singers. One of them is Rebecca Parris, who brings a lot of Wilson influence to Passionate Fling as well a very strong appreciation of Carmen McRae. But for Parris, bringing the influence of Wilson, Carmen McRae, or anyone else to a [LP] isn't a matter of mindless imitation. She is a very recognizable vocalist herself, and her brassy, robust interpretations of ''Teach Me Tonight,'' ''Over the Rainbow,'' and Freddie Hubbard's ''Little Sunflower'' are as personal as they are gritty. Equally captivating is Parris' version of Miles Davis' ''All Blues,'' for which she embraces Oscar Brown's lyrics.
