A classically trained pianist, Marden Abadi's one venture thus far into popular music was a fine 1978 album for the SQN label on which he explored ten Scott Joplin songs. Abadi's ability to infuse Joplin's rags with his own emotions, his use of tempo variation, and his technical expertise set his one album on a higher level than many of the ragtime revival records of the period.
