Album Review

Scott Yanow [allmusic.com]

In 1984, Claude Bolling's 18-piece orchestra performed eight of his originals during a recorded live concert in Paris. The music is influenced by Duke Ellington, although Bolling's own musical personality often peaks through during his arrangements. The music is not overly memorable as a whole, but there are some good moments, particularly from such soloists as trumpeter Fernand Verstraete, trombonist Benny Vasseur, tenorman Andre Villeger and pianist Bolling himself.
