Biography

David Becker is an American, guitarist, composer and producer, leader of the David Becker Tribune (DBT). Becker has been nominated twice for a Grammy award. He is a graduate of GIT Musicians Institute.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band released several critically acclaimed recordings while touring the US extensively. DBT's first label was MCA, which released two recordings, including the jazz radio chart-topper Siberian Express that was co-produced by Ken Caillat. The band moved to Bluemoon Records in the early 1990s, and released two more recordings. In 1992, Becker and his brother Bruce, drummer and co-founder, relocated to Europe, where they continued to perform and record.

In 2000, the DBT re-emerged in the US with a DVD-Audio recording Germerica. More was heard from the band with 2004's "Where's Henning", which made it to the jazz radio charts. A solo venture, Euroland, and a duo with jazz guitar great Joe Diorio, The Color of Sound (Acoustic Music Records), followed in 2005. In 2007, the critically acclaimed CD Leaving Argentina was released in Europe and followed in the USA in 2008. The band has been more actively touring the USA, South America and Europe. Becker can also be heard on two tracks of the Colbie Caillat recording Breakthrough, released in August 2009. Becker is also heard on four tracks of the latest Colbie Caillat release, All of You.

Batavia was released world wide on August 6, 2010, to coincide with 65th anniversary of the dropping of the Atom bomb in Japan. All the compositions on this recording have been directly influenced by or written about the experiences of Becker's mother's (who is Dutch) family in Indonesia and their internment in a Japanese concentration camp during World War II. Batavia was voted as one of the Best World Music recordings of 2010 by World Music Central.org.
